Accidents are never convenient. That is why we offer emergency dentistry services to help you in your time of need. We want you to feel confident that you have a place to go when you have a non-life-threatening dental emergency, but above all else we want you to be healthy again.
What You Should Do in Case of a Dental Injury
If you have a dental injury, the first thing that you will need to determine is if it is life-threatening. Signs to look for are excessive bleeding, severe pain, or if the injury has resulted in being knocked unconscious. In these two cases, either you or someone else should call 911 for immediate care. If you are unsure of the extent of your injury, then it is best to call 911 first.
In cases of non-life-threatening dental injuries, you should call our offices at Northwestern Family Dental Care. We will be able to give you instructions for first aid to help before you arrive at our offices. You will be given instructions on what you can do to stop the pain and reduce swelling. Next, you will need to come in and see us as soon as possible. We offer same-day services for patients with dental emergencies.
Types of Dental Emergencies
Injuries to the mouth are not the only type of dental emergency that might need immediate care; there are others as well. The following list is just an example of what might constitute a dental emergency:
- Severe toothaches that won’t go away with over-the-counter pain medication could be a sign of a more serious dental problem and may need to be treated immediately.
- When an adult tooth is knocked out of the mouth, time is critical in having it successfully restored. Seek dental care immediately.
- Constant bleeding of the gums is not normal, so if this occurs, you should contact us immediately for an emergency appointment.
- A broken tooth might not be life-threatening, but it is important to have it repaired as soon as possible because the exposed area could be vulnerable to bacteria.
If you have any type of non-life-threatening emergency dental situation, give us a call at Northwestern Family Dental Care, and let us help you to be healthy and happy again!
